Jan 7, 2022 - Okotoks Oilers win their first home game of the new year 3-1 over the Canmore Eagles!

Friday night at Pason saw the introduction of a new member and the re-animation of an existing one. Connor Gourley came over from the Camrose Kodiaks and Carter Massier returned after a lengthy shoulder rehab having played only  a handful of games before being injured.

It didn't take long for Carter to make an impact, scoring the first goal of the game at the 11:06 mark of the first period. Normally, I wouldn't have caught it as I am usually in the suicide box (between the benches) for the first period where every net image is blocked by a ref, 2 players and an elephant, but this time I was at the right place and time to capture his moment!

Connor found his way on to the game sheet too but it was for a questionable goaltender interference call. Examining my picture it didn't look like he was in the crease, however, he must have been or else the officials would never have made the call, right??

In what could be viewed as a first round playoff matchup as the standings currently sit, it would be a series that would keep the refs busy as the game was what we used to call a "Spirited affair"!

Oilers Captain Tucker McRae had a bullseye on his back getting a shove from behind as he was making a change and falling in to the open gate of the bench. A very dangerous play. Canmore assistant coach Bryan Arneson weakly said to the ref, "He tripped!" but he was simply going through the motions of defending his players actions as he definitely had no conviction and had already started thinking about something else before he finished his sentence.

Later in the 3rd period, Tucker took another tumble when he was again pushed from behind into the boards. Another dangerous play by Canmore this time resulting in a game misconduct for Sam McPeak. So it was a 2 man advantage for Okotoks.

Do you remember the mighty Mo'? as in MO-mentum? Well, when a team successfully kills off a 2 man advantage, mighty Mo' swings towards the defending team as was the case here. The Oilers didn't get many shots on net but they were able to withstand the onslaught that came afterwards.Canmore got within one but the Conyr "hell-yeah"  scored making it 3-1 which is how it stood.

"Every girl 's crazy 'bout a sharp dressed man!" ... ZZ Top

- So I did something different this game. I decided to get to the rink early and catch pics of the guys arriving in their Sunday finest! The boys were looking very GQ indeed and you can decide who you think is the most sharp dressed man. Having their picture taken prior to the game, just like they do in the NHL, I believe provided the guys with a taste of what life in the show is like (along with the already excellent on ice imagery they receive!). Now is it coincidence that this pro-like exposure just HAPPENED to coincide with their first home win of the new year???? I think not!

-On this topic, it sure would have been nice to copy ALL of these images to my hard drive before erasing the card!! As it stands I lost quite a few of the pics of them. Just a reminder to wait until AFTER I have done editing before deleting the card! We all need reminders every now and again
